The Historic Fortification Preservation Handbook was prepared by the Pacific Northwest Preservation Partnership consisting of representatives from the National Park Service, the University of Oregon and Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. The principal authors were David Hansen, Kimberly Keagle and Deborah Rehn. The handbook was published by Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission in 2003.

Winslow (1920) CDSG Press hard cover reprint of text with 29 plates included as a separate paperback volume Winslow’s book is the most comprehensive reference work on the construction techniques and gun emplacement details of Endicott and Taft period seacoast fortifications. The 29 drawings that accompanied the original monograph have been slightly reduced and are bound together as a separate soft cover volume.

Descriptions of all periods of fortification are covered from the colonial period through the modern concrete era--the golden age of fortification construction.
